The Malone University men's soccer team fell 3-2 on Tuesday evening in its home contest against Salem International University. The Pioneers fall to a 1-7 record overall.
The Pioneers took an early 1-0 lead in the contest on a goal by
Gino Finelli.
After Finelli's goal, Salem International scored three unanswered goals over the remainder of the first half to take a 3-1 lead at halftime. Lucas Coehlo had scored the second and third goals for the Tigers just two minutes apart.
The Pioneers made a late push to attempt to claw back into the game. Malone's defense was able to hold Salem scoreless throughout the second half. With five minutes remaining, a goal by
Nathan McFeaters brought the Pioneers within one, cutting the lead to 3-2.
Moments later the Pioneers nearly tied up the game, but were unable to capitalize.
Malone will be back in action on Saturday at Lake Erie College.Â
