Corrick Hits for the Cycle In Pioneer Softball Victory

The Malone University softball team won a pair of conference games against Alderson Broaddus on Friday afternoon. The Pioneers won game won 7-2 and won game two, 7-5. Madison Corrick, a freshman outfielder from GlenOak High School, hit for the cycle in game one. Corrick's feat is believed to be the first time a Malone softball player has ever hit for the cycle. Corrick also had two hits in game two, extending her hitting streak to sixteen games.
 
Game One Recap
 
Madison Corrick led the bottom half of the first inning with a double to left field, but hers would be the only hit of the first inning for the Pioneers.
 
The Battlers would take an early 1-0 lead in the top of the second on three hits and a Pioneer error.
 
Malone answered back with two runs of their own in the bottom half of the second. Caley Ritts hit a one-out single and advanced to second base on a wild pitch. After Mikayla Fowler walked, Maria Mokler hit a sacrifice bunt to move runners to second and third for Corrick. Corrick delivered with an RBI single to centerfield, scoring Ritts and Fowler for the 2-1 lead.
 
After a three-up, three-down inning by the Pioneer defense, Malone added one more run in the third to take a 3-1 lead. Alderson Broaddus answered back with a run of their own in the top of the fourth inning to cut the lead to one run once more.
 
The Battlers' offense had scored their last run of the game in the fourth inning, while the Pioneer offense was still red hot. The Pioneers added two more runs in the fourth. The first came from a triple by Madison Corrick, scoring Caley Ritts. Allison Mercado stepped to the plate as a pinch-hitter, hitting a single up the middle to score Corrick from third. The Pioneers led 5-2 after the fifth.
 
With a runner on first in the bottom of the sixth, Madison Corrick hit the first homerun of her collegiate career, capturing the elusive feat of hitting for the cycle and leading the Pioneers to a 7-2 victory.
 
 
Game Two Recap
 
Corrick's bat stayed hot in game two, as she singled to left and extended her hitting streak to sixteen games. Shelby Hulin hit a single to left as well, putting runners on first and second with no outs in the bottom of the first. A sacrifice bunt by Anna Myers moved the runners over, as they would go on to score thanks to RBI singles from Caley Ritts and Allison Mercado.
 
Corrick hit her second triple of the day in the second inning, scoring Maria Mokler. Corrick went on to score on an error by the pitcher who misplayed a throw from the catcher. Malone led 4-0 after two innings.
 
Ashley Beck led off the third inning with a triple of her own, and she would extend the Pioneer lead to 5-0 on a sacrifice bunt from Emily Beck.
 
Malone added another run in the fourth for a 6-0 lead. Shelby Hulin hit a one-out single to left before scoring on a double to right field by Anna Myers.
 
Alderson Broaddus got on the board in the top of the fifth inning on a solo shot to right field by Samantha Turner. The Battlers lived up to their name in the top of the sixth inning, as they fought back with a huge four-run inning to make the contest a one-run game at 6-5.
 
Malone added one run in the bottom half of the inning to secure their victory. Shelby Hulin led the inning off with her third hit of the game, a single to the right side of the infield. Anna Myers singled and Caley Ritts reached on error to load the bases with nobody out. After an out on a fielder's choice at home, Ashley Beck stepped to the plate and delivered with a sacrifice fly to deep centerfield that scored Anna Myers and give Malone the 7-5 victory.

Malone will celebrate their Senior Day tomorrow at Pioneer Field. Senior Day celebration will begin at 12:30 p.m. before the Pioneers take on Alderson Broaddus in a double-header.
