The Malone University softball team dropped a pair of games to Walsh on Wednesday. The Cavaliers won a close battle in game one by a score of 2-1 before beating the Pioneers 11-0 in five innings in game two.
Game One Recap
Walsh got an early jump on the Pioneers, taking a 2-0 advantage after the first inning.
Samantha Fruchey came in to pitch in the second inning and pitched six innings of shutout softball.
Malone put up a run in the second inning to cut the Cavalier lead to 2-1.
Ashley Beck hit a leadoff single before being moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by
Allison Mercado, and scoring from second on a single by
Caley Ritts.
Madison Corrick hit a leadoff double to start the sixth inning to extend her hitting streak to 13 games and give the Pioneers a tying run on second base. Corrick moved to third base on a sacrifice bunt by
Shelby Hulin but the Pioneer offense was unable to bring the runner home.
Game Two Recap
The first inning of game number two got off to a rough start for the Pioneer defense as they allowed Walsh to score four runs on five hits and three errors.
Madison Corrick, who made her first error of the season in the top of the first, attempted to spark the Pioneer offense in the bottom half of the inning with a leadoff single to the right side of the infield. Corrick's single extended her hitting streak to 14 games.
Walsh added a run in the second inning and in the third inning to take a 6-0 advantage before exploding for a five-run inning on two hits and two more Pioneer errors in the fifth inning for the 11-0 victory.
