The Malone University softball team won both of its games on its last day at the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic, and has won five straight games overall. On Thursday, the Pioneers defeated Mount Aloysius 3-0 and then went on to defeat Shaw 12-2.
Game One Recap
The Pioneers struck early on Thursday.
Mikayla Fowler led the game off with a single, and would cross home plate on a single by
Caley Ritts to give the Pioneers a 1-0 lead.
Malone would tack on two more runs in the fourth, starting with a lead-off homerun by
Anna Myers. Clara Friend would single two batters later, and would score on
Mikayla Fowler's third single of the day, giving the Pioneers a 3-0 victory.
Samantha Fruchey picked up her second win of the season, giving up zero runs in four innings for Malone.
Game Two Recap
Fowler once again got things going early for Malone, starting the game with a lead-off single. After Fowler singled,
Madison Corrick and
Ashley Beck followed suit with singles of their own. Malone would lead 2-0 after one.
Emily Beck and
Clara Friend led the second inning off with a pair of singles. Beck would score later in the inning on a single by
Mikayla Fowler, and the Pioneers would finish the inning with a 4-0 lead after
Kendall Reidenbach scored on a wild pitch.
With two outs in the fourth inning, the Pioneers would break things wide open starting with a big triple by
Madison Corrick.
Caley Ritts and
Emily Beck would both hit triples in the inning as well, and Malone added four more runs to take an 8-0 lead.
Isabella Roberts pitched four innings of no-hit softball for the first four innings of the game, but allowed two runs in the fifth inning.
Malone would shut the door in the sixth inning, scoring four more runs for the 12-2 victory for Roberts. Three of Malone's runs in the sixth inning came from errors by the Shaw defense.

After playing nine games in four days, Malone will have a break from play until March 15th when the Pioneers will travel to Cincinatti Christian for a double-header.
