Game Recap: Softball |

Softball Splits With West Liberty

The Malone University softball team split a pair of games with West Liberty on Tuesday. The Pioneers won the first contest 3-1 for their sixth win in a row. This is the first time the Pioneers have won six games in a row since 2013. West Liberty took the final game 5-2.

Game One Recap

Ashley Beck put the Pioneers on the board in the first inning 1-0 with a two-out solo homerun to left field.

Emily Beck would add to the Pioneer lead in the fourth inning with a two-run double down the left field line to extend Malone's lead to 3-0. Allyson Gruen and Caley Ritts scored on the play.

West Liberty would score a run in the fifth to cut Malone's lead to 3-1, but their attempt to finish off the comeback would stop there.

Isabella Roberts picked up the win for Malone after giving up just one run in 4.1 innings of work. Samantha Fruchey earned a save for the Pioneers.

Game Two Recap

The second game of the day started much quieter than the first. Neither team was able to get a hit in the first three innings of the game. West Liberty broke things open in the fourth inning, scoring three runs on four hits.

The Hilltoppers would stay hot through the fifth inning, where they added on two more runs for a 5-0 lead.

Malone got on the board in the seventh inning on a two-run homerun from Emily Beck. Despite Beck's efforts, the Pioneers could not finish off the seventh inning rally. Emily Beck had four RBIs between the two games on Monday.
