Malone Women's Basketball to Host Northwood in Home Opener

Paiten Strother scored 13 points and was 3-of-3 from three-point range in the win at Lake Superior State

The Malone University women's basketball team, coming off of an 80-68 season-opening road victory over Lake Superior State last Friday, will welcome Northwood University to Osborne Hall on Wednesday, November 22nd for their 2017-18 home opener. The non-conference matchup will tip off at 12 o'clock noon.

Series History
The Pioneers went 2-3 against the Timberwolves in five games from 2011-2015. Northwood won the last two meetings, including a 69-51 victory over Malone in Canton in December of 2015.
 
Malone Notes 
  • Junior forward Naomi Grandison is the only current Pioneer to play in that game against Northwood in 2015. In her first collegiate start, Grandison had a team-high 14 points. In her third collegiate start last Friday, Grandison had 12 points and a team-high 10 rebounds as she recorded her first career double-double
  • Senior forward Baylen Dyrlund scored a team-high  16 points at Lake Superior State.
  • Paiten Strother totaled 13 points, Chrissie Vaughan had 11, and Sydney Wentling had 10 as five Pioneers reached double-digits in a balanced scoring attack.
  • Holly Groff tallied eight points and a team-high nine assists in the win.
  • The Pioneers drilled 13 three-pointers against LSSU. Malone, who averaged nine made threes per game last season, had seven different players make at least one three-pointer last Friday.
  • Malone was 13-of-25 (52.0%) from beyond the arc. The Pioneers were also 11-of-12 (91.7%) from the free throw line.
  • Dating back to last season, Malone has won nine straight regular season games
  • The Pioneers come into Wednesday contest having won 11 straight at home.

Northwood Notes - Roster | Schedule | Stats
  • After losing their first two games of the season, the Timberwolves won twice last weekend at the GLIAC/GLVC Challenge.
  • In an 86-72 over Lewis last Friday, guards Maddy Seeley (25) and Lindsay Orwat (23) combined for 48 points. Seeley then scored 18 in a 77-57 win over Indianapolis on Sunday.
  • A week prior, Orwat scored 36 in a loss to Bellarmine. On the season, she is averaging a team-high 20 points a game and has 12 three-pointers.
  • Grace German leads the team in rebounds (7.5 rpg) while Seeley leads the team in assists (3.3 apg)
  • The Timberwolves went 16-11 last season and 13-8 in the GLIAC. Dating back to last season's GLIAC quarterfinal loss to Grand Valley State, Northwood has lost three in a row on the road
