The Malone University men's and women's swimming and diving teams each fell to the University of Mount Union in their season opener on Friday night. The men lost by a score of 128-108, while the women's team lost 120-98.

In his first collegiate meet, freshman
Brice Dixon won the 200 Yard Freestyle with a time of 1:46.41, sixth fastest time in Malone's records. Dixon would go on to win the 100 Yard Freestyle as well, coming in just .02 seconds before Logan Palochak of Mount Union. Dixon's time was 48.42, which is sixth all-time at Malone. Â

Nick Wertz won the 200 Yard Butterfly with a time of 2:06.21, barely edging out Brian Walker of Mount Union in the final 50 yards. Wertz's time moves him to ninth on Malone's Top Ten List in the event. Walker finished with a time of 2:07. Wertz would go on to win the 1000 Yard Freestyle in a time of 10:18.94.

Dominic Mariano, another Pioneer freshman, won the 3 meter dive with a score of 264.35 and the 1 meter dive with a score of 239.00.

Women's Highlights

The Pioneer women started their meet off with a win in the 200 Yard Medley Relay. The team of
Abby Reynolds,
Kaila Butterworth,
Denise Quentin, and
Lauren Cantor finished in a time of 1:54.33.
Freshman swimmer,
Abby Reynolds came in first in the 200 Yard Freestyle. Her time of 1:58.64 was over eight seconds faster than the second place finisher and is third all-time at Malone. Reynolds would go on to win the 100 Yard Freestyle in a time of 54.55, the second best time at Malone.

Kaila Butterworth, who is also a freshman, won the 50 Yard Freestyle in a time of 25.86. In her first collegiate race, Butterworth moved herself to second all-time in Malone's top ten for the event.

First year Pioneer swimmer,
Denise Quentin, won the 200 yard Individual Medley with a time of 2:16.69. Her time is fourth in Malone's top ten. Quentin would go on to win the 200 Yard Butterfly in a time of 2:21.89, the second fastest time at Malone.
