The Malone University women's soccer team lost a close battle to undefeated Ohio Valley University on Saturday at home. The 3-2 loss by the Pioneers brings their record to 4-6-3 (2-5-3) on the season.

Malone took an early 1-0 lead eight minutes into the contest when
Keeley Malley scored from 25 yards out following a foul by Ohio Valley.

With seven minutes remaining in the first half a foul was called in the box, awarding a penalty kick to Ohio Valley. Giannnou Konstantina capitalized on the penalty kick, tying the game 1-1.

About five minutes later, with just 90 seconds remaining, Ohio Valley put the ball into their own net, giving Malone a 2-1 lead going into the half.

Ohio Valley came out and scored a goal right out of the gate in the second half to tie the game up 2-2. The Fighting Scot goal came from a foul kick thirty yards out by Iona Rothfeld.

With twenty minutes remaining, Ohio Valley took their first lead of the game, which would be the last lead change of the contest. Montserratt Grau attempted a shot which was blocked by
McKenzie Chappell, but Thais Dos Santos was there to snag the rebound and kick it back into the net.

Ohio Valley out-shot the Pioneers 21-10 in the contest.
McKenzie Chappell was able to save ten shots by Ohio Valley, while allowing three goals.

Despite the loss, the Pioneer women were able to go toe to toe with a team that has not seen defeat yet this whole season. The Pioneers have won, tied, or lost by just one goal in their past six contests.

The Pioneers will be back in action on Tuesday, when they will take on Walsh University at 7:00 pm at St. Thomas Aquinas High School.
