Men's Basketball Continues Five Game Road Stand

The Malone University Men's Basketball team will play a pair of road games this week starting with a trip to Central State on Wednesday at 7:30, followed by a conference road game at Ohio Valley on Saturday at 4:00.

All-Time Series Record: Malone is 11-9 all-time against Central State. The Pioneers won 81-79 in their last meeting in the 2011-2012 season. This week's game between Malone and Ohio Valley will be the first time the two teams have ever faced each other.

  • The Pioneers picked up their first conference win as members of the G-MAC this past week with a 70-49 victory over Trevecca Nazarene. Ty Jordan, Christian Graves, and Nate Sheppard each scored in double figures in the Pioneer victory. Graves grabbed ten rebounds as well, earning a double-double on the evening.
  • Jordan and Graves combined for nine made three-pointers on the evening. Malone is currently first in the conference in three-pointers made on the season with 148. The team is averaging just over ten three-pointers per game. Jordan leads the conference in three-pointers made as well with 40 on the season.
  • The Pioneers fell to Kentucky Wesleyan, who is currently in first place in the G-MAC, two days after their win against Trevecca Nazarene. Nate Sheppard and Ty Jordan were in double digit scoring again. Djuro Pantos scored in double digits as well, scoring 14 points while going 4 of 5 from the field, including 2 for 2 from downtown and 4 of 4 from the charity stripe.
  • The Pioneers went a perfect six for six from the free-throw line, however Kentucky Wesleyan was able to earn 19 points from the line in 25 attempts.
  • Malone is currently first in the G-MAC in assists and in assist/turnover ratio.

Record: 6-11
  • The Marauders had a tough stretch where they lost seven games in a row between December and January. However, the team seems to be getting back on track. Last week the team had a 53-49 victory over Miles College and came up just short in a 63-62 loss to Tuskegee University.
  • Central State has three players averaging double-digit scoring. Markese McGuire is scoring 11 points per game and Frank Barber III is averaging 10 points per game. The team's leading scorer, Dwight Richard Jr. scored just over 12 points per game while coming off of the bench.
  • Richard is shooting over 44% from the three-point line and 85% from the free throw line.
  • Central State's largest victory came back in November when the team defeated Wilberforce 89-70. Malone played Wilberforce earlier this season as well, falling 83-72.

Record: 0-14 (0-4)
  • Ohio Valley is still seeking their first win of the season. The team's two closest games of the season each came this past week including a 77-64 loss to Walsh University and a 69-53 loss to Davis & Elkins.
  • The Fighting Scots are extremely young this season. The team lost seven seniors from last year's team and has just one senior on the roster this year.
  • The team is lead offensively by a 6-7 sophomore, Avery Williams. Williams is averaging 17.0 points per game while pulling in 6.2 rebounds. Williams has only played in the past six games of the season.
  • Kyle Davis is averaging 11.9 points per game this season. He is leading the team with 2.8 assists per game and leads the team in steals with 2.8 as well. Davis is the current conference leader in steals.
  • Ohio Valley is third in the G-MAC in blocked shots, averaging 2.4 blocks per game. Avery Williams has ten of their 34 blocks on the season. The team is second in the G-MAC in steals, averaging 7.9 per game.
