Men's Basketball Heads Out on the Road

The Malone University men's basketball team will begin a five-game road stand, starting with a pair of conference road games this week against Trevecca Nazarene on January 12th at 9:00 p.m. EST and against Kentucky Wesleyan on the 14th at 4:15 p.m. EST.

  • The Pioneers will look to bounce back after dropping their first two conference games of the season last week. The team fell 71-65 in their conference opener at Alderson Broaddus before dropping their first home game of conference play to Davis & Elkins 85-71.
  • The team shot just 29.7% from the field and 23.3% from the three-point line against Alderson Broaddus, but the team bounced back against Davis & Elkins to shoot 46.7% from the field and in impressive 45% from the three-point line.
  • The Pioneers are leading the conference in both assist to turnover ratio (1.4) and in three-pointers made (125) on the season.
  • Senior guard Christian Graves is approaching 1,000 career points as a Malone Pioneer. He currently has 954 career points.
  • Ty Jordan continues to lead the conference in assists (5.0 apg), three-pointers made per game (2.8), and assist to turnover ratio (3.2).
  • Mitchell Spotleson trails only Ty Jordan in three-pointers per game. Spotleson is tossing in 2.6 per game from beyond the arc. This past week against Alderson Broaddus Mitch had a double-double, his second of the season, scoring 11 points while grabbing 12 rebounds.

  • After going 3-11 in non-conference play to start the season, the Trojans have been hot to start their conference schedule. The team started with a 73-72 overtime victory at Cedarville before trouncing Ohio Valley 81-52 last week.
  • Jacob Williams and Percy Blade each scored 20 points or more in the overtime victory against Cedarville. Devin Whitfield scored 15 as well, including the game winning free throw in overtime.
  • Whitfield is leading the team in scoring on the season with 15.3 points per game, which is 5th in the G-MAC.
  • Freshman big man, Cameron Paulding, has 18 blocks on the season, second most in the conference.
  • The Trojans starters carry a large amount of the workload. The team has three of the four leaders in minutes per game on the season. Percy Blade leads with 36.2 mpg, Devin Whitfield is second with 35.2, and Donovan Donaldson is fourth with 32.8 minutes per game.

  • The Panthers of Kentucky Wesleyan are currently in first place in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC). Both of the Panthers' losses came early in the season in the Small College Hall of Fame Classic, in which they lost back-to-back games against #2 Lincoln Memorial and Southern Indiana. Since those two losses the Panthers have rattled off ten straight wins, including going 2-0 in their first week of conference play.
  • This past week Kentucky Wesleyan defeated Ohio Valley 104-63 and defeated Cedarville 83-69. All ten players for Kentucky Wesleyan scored over five points in the victory over Ohio Valley. Five players scored in double figures.
  • Ken-Jah Bosley hit six three-pointers against Cedarville to lead the team with a total of 26 points. Bosley is the second leading scorer in the conference, averaging 18.5 points per game. He leads the conference in threes made with 34, and trails only Malone's Ty Jordan and Mitch Spotleson in three pointers made per game.
  • Right behind Bosley on the conference scoring list is teammate Jordan Jacks. Jacks sits in third place averaging 17.1 points per game. Jacks is also third in the conference in rebounds, grabbing 7.6 boards per game.
  • A great compliment to the Panthers' scorers, Charles Foster is averaging 4.0 assists per game for the team. Foster's assist total trails only Malone's Ty Jordan in the conference.
  • The Panthers are averaging the most points in the G-MAC, while also allowing the fewest. They lead the conference in field goal percentage, free throw percentage, and three-point percentage offensively. Defensively, the team leads the conference in steals and defensive rebound percentage.
