The Malone University women's soccer team got their first win of the season over Spring Hill College in the Palm Beach Atlantic Tournament in Florida on Saturday with a final score of 2-1.
Spring Hill struck first with a goal from sophomore Gabrielle Burmaster ten minutes into the game. Going into the half, the Pioneers still trailed 1-0. The Pioneers continued to trail by one until senior forward
Brianna Smith answered the bell with just over eight minutes remaining off an assist from junior midfielder
Darby Burch.
Those in the stands did not even have time to go to the concession stands and back because two minutes later the Pioneers struck again. Senior forward
Christine Najjar booted the ball over the head of Spring Hill goal keeper Kayla Beaston and into the back of the net for the winning goal!
Thanks to the two clutch goals in crunch time by Smith and Najjar the Pioneers move to 1-1 on the season. They will host the first home game of the season against Great Midwest Athletic Conference opponent Alderson Broaddus on Thursday, September 8
th at 4:00pm.Â
