Box Score The Malone University women's soccer team collected a 2-1 victory on Saturday afternoon over G-MAC opponent, Ohio Valley.
The first half was a battle of defensive will, and finished in a 0-0 tie. Neither team was able to attempt more than five shots the entire first half.
The Pioneers got on the board first on a goal from
Christine Najjar, which was assisted by
Melissa Soltisz. The goal was Najjar's third on the season.
Ten minutes later the Fighting Scots tied the game back up 1-1 on a goal by Laura Diaz, assisted by Andrea Ortiz-Borray.
Not to be outdone,
Christine Najjar scored the game-winning goal with less than five minutes remaining in the contest to give the Pioneers a 2-1 victory. The goal was her second on the day, and her fourth of the season.
Najjar's second goal today was not only her second game-winning goal of the season, but it was also her 28
th career goal as a Malone Pioneer. After today, she has now climbed into Malone's top five in career goals. She is tied for fifth with Melissa Barber.
The Pioneers will be back in action at home against Clarion on September 27
th at 4:00 p.m.
