Pioneers Suffer Second Straight Five-Set Setback

The Malone University volleyball team remains winless in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) after suffering a tough five set defeat to Trevecca Nazarene on Saturday afternoon 25-22, 25-22, 21-25, 17-25, 7-15.

Malone outhit Trevecca in each of the first two sets but cooled off considerably while the TNU attack heated up in the final three sets. The Trojans recorded 67 kills, including 40 in sets three through five. Malone, meanwhile, tallied 46 total kills in the match, including just 20 in the last three sets. The five-set loss was the second straight such defeat for the Pioneers.

Haley Kool and Mallory Adams each posted nine kills while Veronica Gehring added seven. Cathryn Miller registered 38 assists from her setter spot.

On the defensive side, senior libero Lynsey Trusty set a new career-high with 24 digs. Junior backrow mate Julia Marino delivered her first double-digit digs total of the season with 11. Haley Kool and Hannah Eliason both finished with five blocks while Mallory Adams added four.
