The Malone University volleyball team remains winless in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) after suffering a tough five set defeat to Trevecca Nazarene on Saturday afternoon 25-22, 25-22, 21-25, 17-25, 7-15.
Malone outhit Trevecca in each of the first two sets but cooled off considerably while the TNU attack heated up in the final three sets. The Trojans recorded 67 kills, including 40 in sets three through five. Malone, meanwhile, tallied 46 total kills in the match, including just 20 in the last three sets. The five-set loss was the second straight such defeat for the Pioneers.
Freshman outside hitter
Faith Lau was a bright spot for the Pioneers, collecting a team-high 15 kills along with 11 digs for her first collegiate double-double.
Haley Kool and
Mallory Adams each posted nine kills while
Veronica Gehring added seven.
Cathryn Miller registered 38 assists from her setter spot.
On the defensive side, senior libero
Lynsey Trusty set a new career-high with 24 digs. Junior backrow mate
Julia Marino delivered her first double-digit digs total of the season with 11.
Haley Kool and
Hannah Eliason both finished with five blocks while
Mallory Adams added four.
2015 G-MAC Player of the Year Katelyn Atkinson totaled a game-high 27 kills in the victory.
Malone, now 3-11 overall, will look to bounce back on Tuesday, September 27th when they travel to rival Walsh University for a 7:00 pm match.
