The Malone University volleyball team dropped to 2-5 on the season after falling to Hillsdale College 23-25, 12-25, 18-25 and to the University of Findlay 17-25, 17-25, 23-25 in a pair of non-conference matches Saturday at Findlay.
In the first match, the Pioneer offense never seemed to get on track, tallying just 25 kills to 22 attack errors and a .028 attacking percentage in the three-set defeat. In comparison, Hillsdale, now 5-1, hit .296 with 42 kills.
Veronica Gehring and Mallory Adams paced the Pioneers with six kills each while freshmen Hannah Eliason and Faith Lau each added five kills. Freshman Sydney Black added three service aces.
Defensively, Lynsey Trusty led Malone with nine digs, Julia Marino finished with seven digs, and Haley Kool tallied a team-high three blocks.
For the Chargers, Paige Vanderwall had a game-high 10 kills. Kyra Rodi collected four of Hillsdale's eight blocks.
Against Findlay, who came in ranked in the NCAA DII top-30, the Pioneers fared just a little better on offense, collecting 28 kills and a .123 hitting percentage. The powerful Oilers, however, totaled 45 kills and a .372 attacking percentage as Malone managed just 22 digs in the contest.

Gehring led Malone with eight kills while Adams chipped in with seven. Setter Cathryn Miller registered 24 assists.Trusty again led the defense with eight digs. Miller, Adams, and Eliason each added three blocks.

Hannah Tong and Amanda Winner led the Oilers with 16 and 14 kills respectively
