The Malone University men's soccer team started off the season on a great note Thursday afternoon, defeating Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania 1-0. This marks the Pioneers' first 1-0 win since 2012.
At the half, the score was tied at 0-0. The tie was broken in the 52
nd minute of the game when sophomore defender
Christian Kallenberger lobbed a long pass to freshman midfielder
Gino Finelli who took the ball in for the goal.
Malone showed a tremendous defensive effort. The backline of freshman,
Jonathan Dendinger, and sophomores,
Christian Kallenberger and
Caleb Griffith only allowed Slippery Rock to attempt 7 shots in the game, 5 of which were shots on goal. Sophomore goal keeper,
Cody Hilty, was 5 for 5 on saves for the evening.
Malone will be back in action this Saturday, September 3
rd at 7:00pm at Walsh University.Â
