Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's Soccer Starts Season with a Win over Slippery Rock

The Malone University men's soccer team started off the season on a great note Thursday afternoon, defeating Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania 1-0. This marks the Pioneers' first 1-0 win since 2012.

At the half, the score was tied at 0-0. The tie was broken in the 52nd minute of the game when sophomore defender Christian Kallenberger lobbed a long pass to freshman midfielder Gino Finelli who took the ball in for the goal.

Malone showed a tremendous defensive effort. The backline of freshman, Jonathan Dendinger, and sophomores, Christian Kallenberger and Caleb Griffith only allowed Slippery Rock to attempt 7 shots in the game, 5 of which were shots on goal. Sophomore goal keeper, Cody Hilty, was 5 for 5 on saves for the evening.

Malone will be back in action this Saturday, September 3rd at 7:00pm at Walsh University.
