The Malone University softball team fell to Shepherd University (WV) by the final score of 8-0 in six innings and to Mercyhurst University (PA) by the final score of 10-1 in five innings at the West Virginia Wesleyan Invite at Salem, Virginia on Friday night.
The Pioneers will wrap-up their West Virginia Wesleyan Invite on Saturday, as they will play Bowie State University (MD) at 12:00 p.m. and Winston-Salem State University (NC) at 2:00 p.m.
Game One:The Rams wasted no time scoring as they collected two runs in the bottom of the first inning to take an early 2-0 advantage.
Shepherd would keep the momentum rolling as they went on to score two runs in the third, two in the fourth, and two in the sixth inning to take the 8-0 victory.
Alexa Holztrager went a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate for Malone.
Game Two:Caley Ritts would strike a hard hit in the top of the first inning to bring home
Emily Isla across the plate to give Malone a 1-0 advantage.
Malone's lead didn't last long as the Lakers notched a run in the bottom of the first inning to tie the game at 1-1.
Mercyhurst continued with the hot hitting as they scored two runs in the third, three in the fourth, and four in the fifth inning to register their third win of the season.
Ritts went 1-for-2 at the plate and recorded one RBI.
