The Malone University men's basketball team closed out the 2016 calendar year on Friday at home with a convincing 114-62 victory over visiting Wright State University Lake. The Pioneers set a new single-game record by draining 20 three-pointers on the night.
Malone shot a blistering 45.5% from long range, handed out an impressive total of 36 assists and out-rebounded the Lakers by a 57-28 margin. All 11 Pioneers that participated in the contest scored and 10 different Malone players handed out at least two assists.
The Pioneers pulled out to a 13-0 lead after three minutes and were never threatened over the course of the evening. Wright State Lake, which only had five players available for Friday's contest, pulled to within 19-10 with just under 14 minutes to go before a 21-4 Malone surge put the game out of reach.
Game Highlights
-The 20 three-pointers surpassed the previous school record of 17 which was set during the 1991-92 season. The 20 treys also tied the Great Midwest Athletic Conference's single-game record
-The 114 points marked the most the Pioneers had scored since tallying 117 in a win over Salem International in 2012; It also marked Malone's first 100-point outburst since November of last season in a 107-71 triumph over Silver Lake and it was the fourth-most points scored in a game in G-MAC history
-The Pioneers sank a total of 11 three-pointers in the first half and went to the locker room on top 54-22
-Malone's 36 assists are the most in a single game over the last eight years, but were still 10 shy of the 1990-91 school record of 46 assists
-The Lakers were forced to play with four players over the last eight and a half minutes due to forward Blake Stephens receiving his fifth foul of the night
Malone Individual Highlights
-Forward
Mitchell Spotleson led the three-point barrage, hitting a career-high seven treys on just eight attempts from beyond the arc. Spotleson also grabbed five rebounds and finished with a game-high 23 points - just one point shy of his career-high

Ty Jordan nailed four three-pointers, ending the night with 20 points, five rebounds and five assists

Nate Sheppard hit double figures for the 10th straight game, sinking three treys and finishing the night with 16 points, four rebounds and three assists

Christian Graves drilled four of seven three-pointers, totaling 12 points, four assists and three rebounds in just 15 minutes off the bench

Daylan Haynie also hit double figures with 12 points and four assists

Chris Johnson notched eight points and 12 boards while forward
Djuro Pantos registered four points, six rebounds, four assists and three steals

Ben Evans racked up seven points, six rebounds and three assists, forward

-Guard Vonzell Groom paced the Lakers with 23 points, six assists and four rebounds
-Forward Seamus Anglin followed with 18 points and six rebounds.
-Forward Kain Luthman tallied nine points and eight boards
