The Malone University men's basketball team will travel to Bluefield State on Saturday. This will be the first time that the Pioneers and Big Blue have faced off since the 1981-1982 season, a game in which Big Blue won 87-78. Malone finished up last week with an 83-71 victory over Lake Erie in the Gannon Tournament. Daylan Haynie led the Pioneers offensively, scoring 16 points in the contest, while Mitchell Spotleson, Nate Sheppard, and Chris Johnson all scored double-digit points as well. Djuro Pantos led the team on the boards, snagging eight rebounds to go along with his eight points. Ty Jordan is currently fifth in the G-MAC in scoring, averaging 13.7 points per game. Sheppard and Spotleson are each averaging double-digit scoring as well. Jordan is second in the conference in assists, dishing out 4.2 per game.

Bluefield State got their first win of the season last Saturday against Tuskegee in the Florida Tech Thanksgiving Tournament. All five of the starters for Big Blue scored in double digits in the contest. Big Blue has four players who are averaging double-digit scoring on the season, with senior guard Joshua Windham leading the way with 12.7 points per game. James Day is leading Bluefield State in rebounds, grabbing six boards per game. Big Blue has a great blend of experience and youth. The team consists of five seniors and three freshmen. Greg Purnell, a freshman, is logging a significant 30.5 minutes per game while scoring 9.2 points per game and a team-high 1.8 steals per game.
