The Malone University women's soccer team notched a 2-0 victory at home on Thursday afternoon during its Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) match against Kentucky Wesleyan College.
After tallying a hat trick in Monday's convincing 10-0 win over Salem International University, senior forward
Christine Najjar picked up right where she left off, scoring twice within a two-minute span early in the first half of Thursday's contest.
The first tally of the game came in the 16
th minute as midfielder
Brianna Smith collected a loose ball and dished a pass to Najjar, who fired a shot into the net for the early lead.
Najjar struck again in the 18
th minute, scoring off a pair of nifty passes.
Danielle Giles moved the ball up the sideline and dished to forward
Kirsten Hilty. Hilty then dribbled towards the net before feeding Najjar with a well-placed centering pass. The senior forward took care of the rest, depositing the ball into the net for her fifth goal of the week and ninth goal of the season.
Najjar nearly went on to record her second straight hat trick, but her shot into the net moments later was waved off due to an offside call.
With Thursday's goals, Najjar moved into a tie for the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) lead in goals scored on the season. She also moved up to fourth on Malone's all-time goals scored list with 33 in her career.
Malone held a 22-7 edge in total shots on Thursday and a 9-3 advantage in shots on goal.
Freshman
Haleigh Seman went the distance in front of the net, recording three saves for her first career shutout.
The victory avenged a 1-0 loss that Malone suffered at KWC on September 17th.
The Pioneers will look to extend their winning streak to three in a row on Saturday when they continue G-MAC play at home with a 1:30 p.m. match against Trevecca Nazarene University.
