The Malone University women's soccer team defeated Davis & Elkins College 2-1 in Thursday evening's soccer match. The Pioneers are now 7-8-1 overall, with a 5-7 conference record. Malone is currently the fifth seed in the conference. The top six teams in the conference will play in the G-MAC tournament at the end of the season.
The seniors for Malone seem to be doing everything in their power to extend this season into the tournament and play as many games as they can get.
Brianna Smith and
Christine Najjar, who are each on Malone's all-time scoring list, both had a goal tonight in the team's 2-1 victory.
Brianna Smith got the Pioneers on the board from a pass by
Alex Carcano in the eleventh minute of play. Smith's goal tonight was her sixth of the season. She has the sixth most goals in the conference and she is fourth in total points.
Christine Najjar would extend the Pioneer lead to 2-0 before the half would end. Najjar's goal was assisted by
Darby Burch. Najjar leads the conference with thirteen goals on the season. Burch is tied for fourth in the conference with four assists.
Jessica Woodbyrne would score for Davis & Elkins in the second half to cut the deficit to 2-1, but the Pioneers held off the Senators for the remainder of the second half for the victory.
Malone will be back in action on Saturday at Alderson Broaddus. Their final home game of the regular season will be on October 25
th against Ursuline.
