Women’s Soccer Falls to Ferris State 2-1 on Friday Night

The Malone University women' soccer team lost at home to Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) opponent Ferris State University (MI) by the final score of 2-1 on Friday night.

10 minutes into the first half, Malone's Brianna Smith lobbed the ball over the goal keeper's head to tally her fifth goal of the season, putting the Pioneers ahead 1-0 early on.

Three minutes later, the Bulldogs' Meredith Smith launched a shot from the left of the field and netted the goal into the right corner, tying the game at 1-1.

Ferris State scored once more at the 43:18 mark in the first half to take the 2-1 lead before heading into halftime.

The shots were coming from both teams in the second-half, with Ferris State having the slight advantage with 17 to Malone's 16. The Pioneers were close on many occasions, but couldn't net the shot, giving the visitors the 2-1 victory.

The Pioneers will return to action on Sunday, September 27th when they host NCAA Division II #8 Grand Valley State University (MI) at 12:30 p.m.

-Brianna Smith collected her fifth goal of the season. She has scored a total of four goals in the last four games for the Pioneers.
-Goal Keeper Leah Rauscher collected eight saves on the day. She now has 40 saves on the season.
-Corrin Hayberg notched her fourth assist on the season. She has recorded at least one assist in three of the last four games for Malone.
