The Malone University women's basketball team defeated the Golden Eagles of Kent State Tuscarawas 80-44 Thursday night in Osborne Hall.
The Pioneers ran out to a 24-13 lead after one quarter on the strength of six 3-pointers After a
Rachel Goddard triple that stretched the lead to 14 points early in the second quarter, Kent State Tuscarawas went on an 8-0 as Tessa Sanders hit consecutive threes and Haley Sanford hit a breakaway layup to cut the deficit to six. That was as close as the Golden Eagles would get as the Pioneers went on an 18-4 run to close the half 45-25.
Malone continued its run in the third frame, scoring the first 17 points en route to a 19-5 third quarter score. The Pioneers used a balanced offense attack to outscore the Golden Eagles 16-14 in the fourth to secure their second victory of the season.
