Women's Basketball Downed by Saint Joe's at "The Q"

Bri Libertore tallied 10 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists, and 2 steals in the loss

For the second consecutive year, the Malone University women's basketball team hosted Saint Joseph's (IN) at Quicken Loans Arena and for the second the straight year, Malone came up empty handed as the Pumas ran past the Pioneers 63-52.

After a Saint Joe's three-pointer to begin the game, Malone used a pressure defense and three 3-pointers to take a 11-9 advantage after one quarter. Malone was outscored 18-14 in the second frame to trail 27-25 at the intermission. The Pioneers struggled offensively in the first half, shooting just 25% (7-28) from the field but were fortunate to hold the Pumas to 36.7% (11-30) shooting.

Malone came out firing in the third quarter with Rachel Goddard draining an open three to take a 28-27 lead. The Pioneers extended that lead to 41-38 after three quarters. The fourth quarter, however, belonged to St.Joe's as the Pumas hit 2 layups to begin the quarter and hit 12 of 13 free throws down the stretch to secure the 63-52 victory.


 
Malone Individual Highlights:  
  • Freshman guard Chrissie Vaughan led the Pioneers with 13 points, 8 rebounds, 2 blocks and 2 steals
  • Senior forward Bri Libertore finished with 10 points, 8 rebounds, and 4 assists
  • Junior guard Rachel Goddard added 12 points, 7 boards, and 4 assists
  • Audrey Myers chipped in with 6 points, 2 blocks and 2 steals

Saint Joe's Individual Highlights:
  • Kalea Parks led all scorers with 21 points in addition to her 9 rebounds
  • Lauren Kotey tallied 15 points and 5 blocks
  • Courtney Kvackoff scored 8 points and recorded a game-high 10 boards
  • Lauren Davis registered 11 points,7 assists, and 6 boards

Game Notes:
  • St. Joe's had the slight rebounding edge 41-37
  • Malone had 19 turnovers to St. Joe's 17
  • The Pioneers shot just 28.1% (16-57) from the field
  • The Pumas shot 37.5% (21-56)
  • Both teams shot above 75% from the free throw line
  • St. Joe's had a significant advantage in points in the paint (30-10)
