The Malone University volleyball team came up short in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletics Conference (GLIAC) match Friday night at Northern Michigan. The Pioneers defeated the Wildcats in the first set 25-23, but couldn't overcome a poor hitting performance, falling 11-25, 12-25, 11-25 in the final three sets.
On the evening, the Pioneers had a season-high 32 attack errors and a season-low -.063 attack percentage including a -.136 average in sets two through four. After holding Northern Michigan to a .091 clip in the first set, the Pioneers couldn't keep up with the Wildcats' offensive attack, allowing 10 service aces on the night and a .351 attack percentage over the final three sets.

Mallory Adams had a team-high 9.0 points (6 kills, 2 services aces, 2 block assists).

Sarah Brent,
Elizabeth Maczuzak, and
Haley Kool each finished with 4 kills apiece. Setter
Cathryn Miller assisted on 22 of Malone's 25 team kills. On defense,
Maggie Hamrock collected a team-high 9 digs while Maczuzak added 8 digs and a game-high 4 blocks.
Northern Michigan's Lisa Studnicka finished with a game-high 13 kills and 6 service aces.
The Pioneers, who dropped to 5-13 on the year and 1-7 in the GLIAC, will look rebound Saturday (October 10th) when they travel to meet Michigan Tech at 4:00 pm. Live stats for the match will be available at:
