The Malone University volleyball team couldn't get on track Saturday afternoon, tallying a season-low 22 kills in a 16-25, 15-25, 13-25 defeat at Michigan Tech. With the loss, the Pioneers are now 5-14 on the season and 1-8 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC).
On offense, Elizabeth Maczuzak played well for Malone, delivering a team-high 8 kills and just a single error on 17 attacks (.417 attack percentage). Veronica Gehring collected 7 kills of her own. Setter Cathryn Miller finished the match with 20 assists.
On defense, libero Maggie Hamrock led the team with 8 digs while Maczuzak added 5 digs and 3 blocks. Middle blocker Haley Kool registered 3 blocks of her own.
Michigan Tech, who improved to 14-4 overall and 6-3 in the GLIAC, finished with a .333 attack percentage (46 kills, 13 errors). Huskies' setter Rachel Pohlod was superb in the match, finishing with 37 assists, 14 digs, and 8 kills on 9 swings (.889 attack percentage).
Malone will play next at the GLIAC/GLVC Crossover Tournament this week in Aurora, Illinois. Matchups are TBA.
