After a remarkable Friday night match that saw the Malone offense land a season-best 58 kills in four sets against Lake Erie, Saturday's match with Ashland saw the Pioneers tally a season-low 17 kills in a 13-25, 14-25, 14-25 setback.
The Eagles, led by 6'2" middle blocker Samantha Zuber who finished with 4 blocks and 11 kills on a .769 hitting average, limited Malone to a season-low 23.0 points. For the match, the Eagles hit .323 as a team, served up 7 aces, and collected 47 digs while the Pioneers hit .000, managed just 32 digs and recorded a lone service ace.
Offensively for Malone, freshman outside hitter Mallory Adams registered a team-high 6 kills while classmate Veronica Gehring chipped in with 4. Elizabeth Maczuzak added 3 kills and a service ace. Cathryn Miller distributed 14 assists.
On defense, Adams led the way with 4 blocks while Jordan Cloyd finished with 3. Maczuzak collected 2 blocks and a team-high 7 digs while Heather Papp added 5 more.
The Pioneers will look to rebound Tuesday night, November 3rd at 7:00 pm when they welcome Walsh University for a rivalry showdown.
