Tonelli Scores Game-Winning Goal in Double-Overtime at Tiffin

The Malone University men's soccer team won a thrilling 2-1 double-overtime contest at Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) opponent Tiffin University on Friday afternoon.

The Pioneers and the Dragons went back and forth for the first 45 minutes without scoring a goal, resulting in a 0-0 deadlock at halftime.

At the 58-minute mark, midfielder Sam Tonelli dished the ball in front of the goal to forward Nick Astalos who found the back of the net to put Malone ahead 1-0 with 32 minutes left in the second half.

16 minutes later, the Dragons fired back to tie the game up at 1-1 with 16 minutes remaining in regulation.

Neither team would convert another goal in regulation or in the first overtime, thus, sending the game into double-overtime.

With just 27-seconds left in the second-overtime, the Pioneers' Sam Tonelli scored off an assist from Miguel Rodriguez to win 2-1 in dramatic fashion.

The Pioneers will travel to the University of Findlay on Sunday, October 4th for a 3:00 p.m. kick-off.
