The Pioneer volleyball team captured its 6th win of the season Saturday morning at the Midwest Region Volleyball Crossover Tournament with an impressive 3-set victory over Quincy University (IL) 25-19, 25-19, 25-15.
Malone had its best hitting performance of the season finishing the match at a .318 clip. The first set saw the Pioneers hit a fantastic .517 as they totaled 15 kills and no attack errors on 29 hits. Malone set a season-low with just 7 attack errors in the match. The Pioneers also set a season-high with 13 service aces, besting the team's previous high of 8.
Veronica Gehring followed her impressive Friday performance with another strong outing against the Hawks, finishing with a game-high 9 kills. The trio of Sarah Brent, Jordan Cloyd, and Elizabeth Maczuzak followed suit with 7 kills each. Setter Cathryn Miller assisted on 28 of Malone's 35 team kills. Mallory Adams had a career-high 7 service aces, including 6 in the decisive third set.
On defense, the Pioneers limited Quincy to just 36 total points and a .128 attacking percentage including a .038 average over the final two frames. Elizabeth Maczuzak led the way with 6 blocks and 5 digs while Jordan Cloyd had a team-high 8 digs. Heather Papp, earning her first start at the libero position, chipped in with 5 digs of her own.
