Men’s Soccer Ties Findlay 1-1 in GLIAC Contest

The Malone University men's soccer team tied 1-1 with Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) foe the University of Findlay at home Friday night.

Neither team was able to produce a goal in the first 45 minutes of action, which resulted in a 0-0 deadlock at the half. The Cardinals had the 10-to-1 shot advantage over the Pioneers in the first half.

Five minutes into the second half, the Oilers' John Clark crossed from the outside to Veselin Panchev who shot the ball into the left side of the net, giving the visitors the 1-0 lead with 40 minutes left in regulation.

The Pioneers fought back nine minutes later when Matt Piccioni dished the ball to Kurt Moore who sneaked the ball past the goalkeeper to tie the game up at 1-1 with 31 minutes remaining in the game.

Neither team was able to score again in regulation or during the next 20 minutes of overtime play, giving each team their first tie of the season.

The Pioneers will continue conference play at home on Sunday, October 18th with a 1:00 p.m. match against Tiffin University.

Game Notes:
-Kurt Moore registered his first goal of the season.
-Matt Piccioni notched his second assist of the season.
-Goalkeeper Jon Crabbs collected three saves on the game to increase his season total to 75 saves. He ranks first in the GLIAC in total saves (75).
-This was the Pioneers' fourth overtime game on the season and their second double-overtime contest.
