The Grand Valley State (MI) University women's soccer team (7-0-1, 5-0 GLIAC) proved to be worthy of their NCAA Division II #1 ranking on Friday night besting Malone 8-0.

Jenny Shaba and Marti Corby each scored two goals for the Lakers, who held a commanding 48-2 advantage in shots. The Pioneers fought hard in the first half to keep the score at only 2-0 at halftime but unraveled in the second half.

Malone sophomore Staci Hackett made 12 saves in the match while junior Sam Soeder made five. Both goalkeepers gave up four goals. Freshmen Sarah Reutter and Christine Najjar had the Malone shots with Najjar's finding its way on target.
