Freshman
Natalie Rostedt scored her first career goal but it wasn't enough as the Malone University women's soccer team fell to Roberts Wesleyan (NY) College 5-1 in their home opener.
Mandi Hochheimer and Brittany Houghton tallied two goals apiece, Brittany Kinmond had a goal and an assist and Briana Tata added two assists for the Red Hawks in a winning effort.
Roberts Wesleyan found the net just a minute into the contest when Houghton slipped between a pair of defenders and beat Senior goalkeeper
Angie Nutial. They made it 2-0 in the 5th minute when Hocheimer was the recipient of a lovely seam pass from Tata. Kinmond's goal in the 32nd minute sent the Red Hawks into the half with a 3-0 lead.
Just like the first half, Roberts Wesleyan wasted no time getting on the score sheet in the second frame. Houghton headed home a nifty left-footed cross from Kinmond pushing the lead to 4-0. Hochheimer would net a fifth goal before Rostedt teamed up with freshman
Leah Arnold to break the shutout. Both recorded their first collegiate points on the play.
Roberts Wesleyan (1-1) outshot Malone (1-1) 18-16 for the contest. Breanna Maggio picked up the win in net for the Red Hawks, making five stops. Nutial fell to 1-1 on the season despite making five saves of her own. Malone returns to action September 5th when they host cross-town nemesis Walsh University. Kickoff is slated for 4:00 pm.
