Volleyball Wins At Findlay In Four Sets For Sixth Victory In Last Seven Matches

Sophomore outside hitter Taylor Slauterbeck paced the team in both kills (tied with Hannah Haver) and in digs as Malone stopped Findlay in four sets on Saturday.

The Malone University volleyball team continued its excellent play in GLIAC competition on Saturday during a road trip to the University of Findlay as the Pioneers pocketed a four-set victory over the host Oilers.

Each match was extremely close as the first three sets were decided by the narrowest of margins with Malone taking set one 25-23, Findlay grabbing set two 25-23 and the Pioneers bouncing back to take the third set 26-24.  Malone then pulled away just a bit in the final set in posting a 25-20 win for the overall match victory.

With the win, Malone improved to 16-9 overall and to 9-6 in GLIAC play as the Pioneers have now won six of their last seven GLIAC contests.  Findlay dropped to 11-16 overall on the year and to 8-8 in the GLIAC.

The frontline duo of outside hitter Taylor Slauterbeck and middlehitter Hannah Haver each racked up an impressive 14 kills in the contest to fuel the Pioneer offense.  In addition, Slauterbeck added a team-high 13 digs and a service ace while Haver also chipped in with five digs and three block assists.

Setter Jackie Jackie Schwamberger collected another all-around solid game as she tossed up 49 assists in the match to go along with five kills, 11 digs, an ace, a solo block and a block assist.

Outside hitter Anna Hays drilled 11 kills of her own and also contributed four digs and a block assist to the Pioneer cause.

Middle hitter Lauren Townley and rightside hitter Diana Wallace each blasted seven kills and notched seven and six digs, respectively.  The duo was also big on defense as Townley tallied three block assists and a solo block while Wallace chalked up four block assists and a solo block. In addition, Townley also posted a team-best two service aces.

In the digs category, defensive specialists Katie Hasebein and Allison Kirby both turned in excellent efforts with 13 and 11 digs, respectively.

The Oilers' Danielle Taflinger paced her squad on offense with 15 kills while teammate Samantha Granger was close behind with 13 kills.

Malone will be back in action on Tuesday when the squad makes the short trip up Market Avenue to take on rival Walsh University in an away GLIAC contest at 7:00 p.m. in a match that was originally scheduled to be played on October 30th.  Live Stats will be available for this match.
