The Malone University men's soccer team recorded a thrilling 2-1 victory at NCAA Division II Charleston on Wednesday evening as forward Felipe Delgado delivered the game-winning goal three minutes and three seconds into the first overtime period. Delgado's golden goal came after he broke free through the middle of the field and chipped a shot over the Golden Eagles' keeper. The Pioneers' record improved to 4-4 overall with the overtime win while Charleston dropped to 2-3 overall.

After 76 minutes of scoreless play, forward Kelvin Aquino put Malone on top 1-0 with his fourth goal of the year as his shot deflected past Charleston keeper Sean Teepen and into the net.

Forward Harry Machacha answered back for the Golden Eagles seven and a half minutes later. Machacha got around the right side of the Pioneer defense and fired a shot past Malone netminder Felipe Monteiro to knot the contest at 1-1.

The Pioneers then took advantage of their first scoring opportunity in the extra frame as Delgado secured the hard-fought victory with his fourth goal of the season.

Charleston held a 9-4 edge in total shots on goal in the match. Monteiro registered eight saves while Teepen stopped two shots.

Malone will be back in action on Monday afternoon when the squad travels to Steubenville, Ohio for a 4:00 p.m. match at NCAA Division III Franciscan University (1-4 overall).
