After suffering a pair of one-goal losses last Friday and Saturday, the Malone University men's soccer team got back on the winning track Tuesday, and in convincing fashion, by pocketing a 4-1 victory at The College of Wooster.
With the victory, Malone improved to 3-2 on the season while Wooster dropped to 2-2 overall.
Malone took a 3-0 halftime lead before the Fighting Scots collected their lone goal late in the second half. Minutes later, the Pioneers notched one final goal to post the solid 4-1 victory.
Twenty-three minutes into the game,
Kelvin Aquino recorded an unassisted goal to give the Pioneers a lead they would never relinquish. Then, with about five minutes remaining in the first half,
Josh Abend scored off an assist from
Rubem Miranda. Just two minutes later, Abend drilled his second goal of the contest, getting the assist from
Kobort Koffa. The pair of goals for Abend marked his second two-goal game of the young season (other vs. Lake Erie on Sept. 3).
In the second half, Wooster broke into the scoring column with 10 minutes left in the game before
Sam Erchick drove home an unassisted goal with five minutes left on the clock to secure Malone's eventual 4-1 victory.
Malone held a convincing 23-10 margin in total shots although Wooster posted a 5-3 edge in corner kicks. Pioneer goalkeeper
Tim Giesel posted four saves while the Fighting Scots' keeper tallied 13 saves in the contest.
In its next match, Malone will travel to Geneva (PA) College (3-1-1) on Wednesday for a 7:00 p.m.
