The Malone University men's soccer team lost its second contest of the season in a rough 3-2 loss to visiting Aquinas (MI) College Saturday afternoon. The loss drops Malone's record to 2-2 on the season while Aquinas improved to 5-1 on the year.
The Saints scored first on a goal from Billy Cremans with an assist through the middle of the field by Tyler Fischer. They followed up with another goal 27 minutes into the game by Michael Gagnon with an assist by Heath Somers. Gagnon headed the ball over the goalie with a pass from Somers.
Right before the half, Malone attempted a corner kick with less than 10 seconds left in the first half.
John David Eades attempted a shot off the pass from
Rubem Miranda, which bounced off the goalkeeper's back, and a Saint's defender then kicked into the goal for Malone's first goal of the game. The score at intermission stood at 2-1 in favor of Aquinas.
Ten minutes into the second half, Aquinas scored its third goal of the contest with a pass up the middle by Fischer to Gagnon who shot and beat the keeper for his second goal of the game. Eleven minutes later, Malone closed to within one goal after Miranda scored on a penalty kick after a handball inside the box was called against Aquinas.
Malone held a slight edge in total shots by an 18-16 count and the Pioneers also had a slight 6-4 edge in corner kicks. Pioneer goalkeeper

Malone (2-2) will be back in action when the team visits The College of Wooster (2-0) on Tuesday at 5:00 p.m. NOTE: Wooster's 2-0 record was prior to their match against Bethany (WV) today.
