The Malone University women's soccer team suffered a 2-1 double overtime home loss to Cedarville University on Tuesday afternoon. After a 1-1 tie at halftime and a scoreless second half and first overtime period, the visiting Yellow Jackets scored the sudden death game winner just 16 seconds into the second and final OT frame. With the loss, Malone dropped to 2-11 while Cedarville improved to 5-6-2 with the win.
Cedarville collected its first goal just 11 minutes into the contest on a goal by Emily Niedermayer , who collected a corner kick from Arianna Pepper and drilled a shot to the near post over the Pioneer keeper, to take a 1-0 lead. Malone got its equalizer with just over eight minutes remaining in the first half on a penalty kick that was drilled home by
Alyssa Foldesy. From that point, nearly 64 minutes of play went by before the Yellow Jackets blasted home the game winner on an unassisted goal from the top of the box to the far post by Amanda Bunton with 9:44 left in the second overtime period.
Cedarville held a 14-9 advantage in total shots and also grabbed a 9-4 edge in corner kicks. Pioneer goalkeeper
Angie Nutial posted four saves in the contest while the Yellow Jacket keeper, Keri Sachtleben, had three saves.
Malone will be back in action on Friday in an 8:00 p.m. game at Davenport (MI) University (10-5).
