Pioneers Endure Narrow 2-1 Overtime Loss At Taylor

Midfielder Lucas Correa Knotted Saturday's Match 1-1 In The 10th Minute Of Play

Box Score

The Malone University men's soccer team lost a hard-fought overtime match at Taylor (IN) University on Saturday afternoon as the Trojans broke a 1-1 tie by scoring the game-winning goal just over three minutes into the extra frame. Taylor improved to 2-2-0 overall with the thrilling victory while the Pioneers dropped to 0-2-0 on the young season.

Both teams wasted little time getting on the scoreboard as Taylor struck first, grabbing a 1-0 lead with a goal just two minutes and 50 seconds into the match. Midfielder Lucas Correa answered back less than seven minutes later for Malone, knotting the contest at 1-1 after knocking in a rebound. The score then remained deadlocked over the final 80 minutes of regulation, sending the contest to overtime.

Taylor quickly brought things to a close, however, capitalizing on a breakaway in the fourth minute of the extra frame.

The Trojans held a slight 7-5 advantage in total shots on goal as Pioneer keeper Felipe Monteiro made five saves.

Malone returns to action on Tuesday as the squad hosts its home opener at 2:30 p.m. against NCAA Division III Bethany (WV) College.
