Pioneers Endure 1-0 Loss At Ursuline

The Arrows Notched Their Fourth Straight Shutout Victory

Box Score

The Malone University women's soccer team suffered a tough 1-0 defeat on the road Thursday afternoon in an American Mideast Conference match against Ursuline College. The Arrows took just one shot on goal in the contest but Ursuline forward Cassie Fischer made it count, scoring the game-winner from near the top of the box in the 15th minute off a pass from defender Brittney Cook. The Pioneers tallied six shots on goal and 10 total shots in the match but were unable to break through against the Arrow defense as Ursuline went on to record its fourth straight shutout victory. Malone's record dropped to 6-7-1 overall and 2-5-1 in the AMC with the defeat while the Arrows improved to 9-6-0 overall and 3-5-0 in the conference.

Arrow keeper Rachel Smith stopped all six Pioneer shots on goal for her fourth shutout of the year.

The Pioneers will look to bounce back on Saturday when they travel to Pittsburgh, Pensylvania for a 1:00 p.m. AMC match against Carlow University.

Postseason Picture: The top five finishers in the AMC regular-season standings will qualify for the conference's postseason tournament. Unfortunately, the Pioneers' hopes of securing a spot in the event were dealt a serious blow with Thursday's loss. In order to have a chance to qualify, Malone would have to win its final two conference matches (at Carlow on Saturday, home vs. Mt. Vernon Nazarene next Saturday) and then get a lot of help from the results of other AMC contests.
