Day One Story Day Two Story Day Three ResultsThe Malone University men's and women's swimming & diving teams completed day three of the four-day GLIAC Championships at the Waterford Mott High School in Waterford, Michigan (hosted by Wayne State University) on Friday. One men's record was broken and two NCAA Division II National Championship provisional qualifying "B cut" times were recorded on Friday.
On the third day of competition, the Malone men are back in 8
th place (were seventh), among eight teams, with 188 points. Grand Valley State University (MI) leads the men's field with 601 points. The Pioneer women remain in 9
th place, among 10 teams, with 101 points. Wayne State University (MI) leads the women's field with 648.5 points.
For the women,
Marta Jankowska notched a runner-up spot in the 200 yard butterfly Championship Final, finishing with a 2:05.55 time which also was a NCAA Division II National Championship provisional "B cut" time.
Sarah Mally,
Kaylor Schuttinger,
Christina Neumann, and
Carolin Friedrich tallied an eighth-place spot in the 800 yard freestyle relay, finishing with a time of 8:22.04. That is now the second fastest time in Malone history.
In the 200 yard butterfly prelims,
Hector Gonzalez,
Florian Zellin, and
Tim Collet finished in ninth (1:54.14), 11
th (1:55.45), and 12
th (1:55.86) place, respectively. During the Consolation Final, Collet placed ninth with a 1:51.56 time, which was a NCAA Division II National Championship provisional "B cut" time. Gonzalez took 11
th place (1:53.86), while Zellin went on to finish 13
th (1:54.70).
Chris Eckard, Gonzalez, Collet, and
Cory Boogaart broke the school record in the 800 freestyle relay and collected a NCAA Division II National Championship provisional "B cut" time, finishing with a 6:47.07 mark to take third place.
The final day of the GLIAC Championships will be tomorrow (Saturday) with the prelims starting at 10:30 a.m. and the finals starting at 5:30 p.m.
