Erica Short returns for her second year as an assistant coach on the Malone University volleyball staff in 2013. At the conclusion of her prep volleyball career at Orrville High School in Orrville, Ohio, Short ranked No. 34 on the 2004 Prep Volleyball Senior List, earning first-team honors on 13 different occasions from a variety of publications and organizations. She garnered player of the year awards from The Daily Record, The Akron Beacon Journal and at the state, district and conference levels.
Short would go on to shine in four seasons at Indiana University, leaving the program as the all-time kills leader, amassing 1,889 total kills for her career. In her senior season at IU, she was an All-Big Ten Honorable Mention selection, AVCA All-Mideast Region Team selection, and Honorable Mention All-American, making her the first Hoosier player to garner All-American honors in 23 years. She finished the year with a team-leading 554 kills, falling one shy of the school record for kills in a season. In addition, her average of 4.54 kills per set during her senior year which ranked ninth in the nation.
Short’s illustrious collegiate career paved the way for her to try her hand in professional volleyball, playing in various leagues in Puerto Rico, Germany and Spain before joining the Malone coaching staff.
She graduated from IU in 2009 with a degree in Therapeutic Recreation and now currently works as a Program Coordinator for Midwest Health. Her only sister, Erin, currently plays volleyball at Eastern Michigan University.
