Malone University Athletics

2016: Hughes appeared in 25 games, while starting 19 as a designated hitter for the Pioneers… Notched 23 hits, 14 RBI’s, four doubles, two triples, and a home run… Finished the season with a .365 batting average and a .540 slugging percentage… Collected her first career hit in Malone’s 9-2 win over Robert Morris University-Springfield (IL)… Had her best hitting game in Malone’s 11-0 victory over Lake Superior State University (MI), going 3-for-4 at the plate, tallying three RBI’s and a double… Notched her first career two-run homer against Lake Superior State University… As a pitcher, she saw action in 56.2 innings and registered 15 strikeouts.

Prior to Malone: Hughes, a 5'6" pitcher/utility player from Magnolia, Ohio (Sandy Valley High School), was a four-time letter-winner in both volleyball and softball. As a pitcher, she currently holds the school record for most wins in a season (21), most strikeouts in a game (19) and most strikeouts in a season (229).  She also had back-to-back seasons with a batting average above .500. In 2013 and 2014, she was named First Team Inter-Valley Conference and was a First Team Eastern District honoree. In 2012, she was a Second Team Eastern District and IVC Honorable Mention selection. In addition, she helped the Cardinals to the 2013 Sectional and District Championships. In the classroom, she is a four-year Academic Letter Winner and was a member of the National Honor Society. Hughes plans on pursuing a degree in Pre-Medical with a minor in Athletic Training at Malone.
