Stefan Ostergren returns for his fifth season on the Malone men’s soccer coaching staff in 2018.
Ostergren, a native of North Canton, Ohio, was a four-year letter-winner at the midfield position for the University of Akron from 2005-09. During his time with the Zips, UA was the top-ranked team in the nation and finished Runner-Up at the 2009 NCAA Division I National Championship.
After graduating from Akron in 2009 with a Business Administration degree, Ostregen moved to Vienna, Austria and played professionally for FCB Donaustadt and SC Team Wiener Linien. His professional playing experience also includes time with the Ohio Vortex and Cleveland Freeze in the Professional Arena Soccer League. During Cleveland’s inaugural season in 2013-14, Ostergren tallied a team-high 29 goals, ranked 11th overall in the PASL in points and helped the Freeze to a Top 4 finish.
While in Austria, Ostergren was Co-European Director for Surge Soccer International in addition to serving as a youth group leader at CIG International Church.
Ostergren, who holds a USSF “E” coaching license, is currently a lead staff coach with Akron Metro FC.
He and his wife, Liz, a former University of Akron women’s soccer player, live in Canal Fulton.
