Prior to Malone
Phoya is a forward and midfielder from Blantyre, Malawi. He attended the Putnam Science Academy in Connecticut upon his arrival to the United States. For the first time in his program's history, Phoya helped lead the program to a second-place finish with a goal in the championship match.

He is the son of Henry D. Phoya and Kondwani L. Phoya and plans to major in business management.
