Dave Jones

  • Title
    Assistant Head Coach
Dave Jones, the assistant baseball coach and hitting instructor, completed his tenth season at Malone this past spring and his 19th season as a coach at the collegiate level.

Well-known for his work with hitters of all ages, Dave coached at the high school level for St. Thomas Aquinas. He also previously coached on the staff at Walsh University (1994-1998) and has been a fixture at Malone for many years.

Dave graduated from Malone in 1989 with a degree in business administration. While at Malone, Jones was a four-year varsity baseball letterman under legendary head coach Bob Starcher. Always an excellent defensive outfielder, Dave was best known for his hitting prowess. A hard working team leader both on and off the field, Jones is considered by many to be one of the best pure hitters ever to play baseball for the Malone Pioneers.

As a hitting coach, Dave has few peers. His work with a recent group of young Malone hitters resulted in the best one-year team batting average increase in school history (.345 in 2008).

After college, Dave continued playing competitive baseball, spending twelve seasons in the Canton Class ‘A’ Baseball League. During those twelve seasons, Dave was a part of nine Class ‘A’ Championship Teams. In 2006, he was inducted into the Stark County Amateur Baseball Hall of Fame and then in January of 2010 was inducted into the Malone Athletics Hall of Fame.

Dave and his wife Kelly, reside in Canton with their daughter Shelby, and sons, Tyrus and Logan.
