John Massarelli returns for his tenth season on the Pioneer baseball coaching staff in 2016.   

Massarelli, who previously served as the manager of the Frontier League’s Lake Erie Crushers from 2009-2012, is the current manager of the Kansas City T-Bones, an independent minor league team located in Kansas City, Missouri. 

Massarelli, now in his 19th year as a baseball coach, guided the Crushers to a Frontier League Championship in 2009, the team’s inaugural season.  Massarelli’s resume also includes a four-year stint as the manager for the Frontier League’s Washington Wild Things (2004-2007), as well as, five seasons managing in the Houston Astros Minor League System (1999-2003), making stops in the New York Penn League, the Class A Midwest League and the Carolina League. 

Prior to his coaching career, Massarelli was a standout catcher/outfielder at the University of Akron and later went on to play ten seasons in the minor leagues, including five at the AAA level. 

Massarelli also owns and operates Massarelli Baseball Academy in Akron, Ohio.  He and his wife and daughter reside in Massillon, Ohio.
