2013 Malone graduate Jared Messer joins the Pioneer coaching staff in 2014 after wrapping up an excellent four-year playing career last spring.
Over 297 innings pitched, Messer compiled a 2.85 career earned run average and a 27-15 record, finishing three victories shy of tying the Pioneer all-time record. He also tossed five career shutouts and 21 complete games while accumulating 255 strikeouts.
Messer received numerous honors and awards throughout his time in a Pioneer uniform, including being named a NCCAA First Team All-American and the NCCAA East Region Pitcher of the Year in 2012 after posting a 9-4 record with a 1.50 ERA and 78 strikeouts.Â
Following his outstanding junior campaign, Messer became just the third Malone baseball player to be selected in the Major League Baseball Draft when he was chosen by the Washington Nationals in the 38th round.
He returned to Malone for his senior season in 2013 and was voted to the All-GLIAC Second Team after compiling a 6-4 record with a 2.70 earned run average.
Messer recently signed a professional baseball contract with the Kansas City T-Bones, an independent minor league team managed by Pioneer assistant coach John Massarelli.
