NASHPORT, Ohio - The Malone University men's golf team moved up three positions on the leaderboard on the final day of the Crossroads Cup to finish eighth out of 15 squads in attendance. Host Ashland University led going into the third and final round, but it was Davenport University that secured the team title.

The Pioneers had a fantastic final day to end the tournament at 920 (314-310-296). Malone had the fourth-lowest score out of all programs on Tuesday. The Davenport Panthers totaled 868 strokes (289-292-287) for the win.

Alexander Eckstein was the low-man for the Pioneers at 224 (78-78-73). He had five birdies in round three and finished the front nine at 1-under par. He hit for birdie on four of the five par-5 holes at The Virtues Golf Club. The freshman tied for 20th overall.

Brady Johnson,
Jaxon Rinkes and
Carter Miller were side-by-side on the leaderboard with scores of 231 (80-78-73), 232 (79-80-73) and 233 (77-79-77). Johnson was 1-under par on the front nine as well and had three birdies. Rinkes had a steady day with two birdies and nothing over a bogey. Miller reigned in the lone eagle for Malone on the par-5 seventh hole. He turned in two birdies as well.

Fletcher Cravens had the most birdies in round three with six within holes 2-11. He finished the event at 243 (83-81-79). Cravens improved his score on each trip around the course.

Malone men's golf remains close to home for their next event, the Tom Tontimonia Invitational on October 5-6. Cleveland State University is the host institution for the tournament at Lakewood Country Club.
