CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky. - The Malone University men's soccer team lost on the road to Thomas More University 2-0 on Saturday afternoon. The Pioneers drop to 2-6-0 on the year as the Saints improve to 7-2-1. In the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC), Malone falls to 1-5-0 while Thomas stands at 5-0-1.
The first half was difficult defensively for the Pioneers as the Saints started the game early with three shots under the first 20 minutes of the match.
Sam Cipriano came in clutch for Malone's defense with two saves to keep the score at 0-0. The Pioneers struggled against a tough Saints defense as they walked into halftime with zero shots.
Roman Sigafoos saw action early in the second half as the relief goalkeeper. He recorded a save at 47:16 to preserve the shutout. Malone had a chance at the 78th minute with a shot by
Andrew Walubengo, but the Saints were able to make the save. Thomas More responded with back-to-goals at 80:21 and 81:21 for a late 2-0 lead over the Pioneers. At the final whistle, the Saints came out on top with a 2-0 win over Malone.
Cipriano recorded two saves for the Pioneers in the first half. Sigafoos (1-2-0) was 6-for-8 on save opportunities in half number two.
Ryan Ziskowski, Camden Albertson, Julius Eckmann, Drew Kapsak, and
Valentino Makhubele stayed on the pitch for the full 90 minutes.
The Pioneers will be back in action at Pioneer Park for Bark in the Park on Thursday, October 1. They will be hosting Kentucky Wesleyan College for another Great Midwest Athletic Conference match. Kick-off is at 7:00 P.M.
