Malone University Athletics

CEDARVILLE, Ohio - The Malone University men's soccer team picked up their first Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) win of the season with a dominant 4-1 victory at Cedarville University. The Pioneers move to 2-3-0 overall and 1-2-0 in conference action while the Yellow Jackets fall to 2-4-1 and 2-1-0 inside the league.
 
In the 11th minute, Malone was on the board with the help of a miscue by the Cedarville defense. A cross was unintentionally punted into the lower left corner of their own net to put the visiting team ahead 1-0. The Pioneers would quickly double their lead in the 17th minute with the first career goal of James Bolton. A towering cross by Charlie Noovao-Martin was sent into the box where Sean Waweru got a piece of it and Bolton finished it off.
 
That 2-0 lead would hold for the duration of the first half. Shots were even at 4-4 through 45 minutes and the starting goalkeeper Sam Cipriano (1-2-0) made two saves. Just as the other matches in 2026, Roman Sigafoos made an appearance in the second half and ended the day with three saves.
 
Malone would take full advantage of another defensive breakdown after the Yellow Jacket goalkeeper failed to get a boot on a long diagonal pass off the foot of Christopher Onye. Waweru was there for the uncontested finish for his first career score after he recorded an assist earlier in the contest. The lead grew to 4-0 in the 77th minute after Alexander Castro Morales was awarded a penalty kick and converted for his first goal with the program.
 
Cedarville was able to find the back of the net themselves on a scramble play in the box after a set piece, but the four-goal deficit was too much to overcome and the Pioneers returned to Canton with the 4-1 triumph. Malone was outshot 14-7, but were able to obtain the better opportunities with three of their four total shots on-goal ending up in scores. On the defensive side of the ball, Ryan Ziskowski, Drew Kapsak and Valentino Makhubele played all 90 minutes.
 
The Pioneers will be in search of back-to-back victories against Lake Erie College on Saturday, September 19 at 3:00 P.M. The match is the middle of several Homecoming & Family Weekend Festivities at Malone, including the Malone University Athletics Hall of Fame Ceremony beginning at 9 A.M. in the Johnson Center, the Malone University women's soccer team facing Lake Erie at 12:00 P.M. and the Malone University volleyball team wrapping up the day with a 7:00 P.M. match against Walsh University.
