CANTON, Ohio - The Malone University women's soccer team fell to Thomas More 2-0 on a warm Thursday afternoon. The Pioneers are now 1-2-1 on the year and start the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) slate at 0-1-0. The Saints move to 3-0-2 and 1-0-0 in league action.
The Pioneers offense began the first half with heavy pressure on the Saints defense. Jojo Knight had a shot attempt at 17:21 for Malone followed three minutes later by Nayeli Cruz with back-to-back shot attempts. Thomas More responded and found the back of the net at 33:03 and took a 1-0 lead.
Knight continued to pressure Thomas More with another shot attempt at 29:01. The Saints added another goal later in the first half at the 38 minute mark and extended the lead to 2-0. The Pioneers continued to battle with a McKenna Schwartzengraber shot-on-goal that was saved by the Saints' goalie.
After a shot attempt from Thomas More, Knight had a shot on goal that was saved to keep Malone from the scoreboard. Morgan Kandel had a shot on goal at the 75 and 87 minute marks that kept the Pioneers offense on the attack. However, the Pioneers were not able to find the back of the net and Thomas More secured the victory.
The Pioneers held the shots advantage 15-7 but tied with the Saints in shots on-goal with four each. Malone had shot on goal attempts from four different Pioneers and Amelia Henderhan (1-2-1) had two saves in goal.
The Malone University women's soccer team will return to action on the road against Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) foe Tiffin University on Saturday, September 12th at 3:30 P.M.
